| Further Information | Lifeboat "Tyne" housed under a canopy near the Pier Head, South Shields. Built in 1883 she is credited with saving 1028 lives during its service life. Received some damage during World War Two. She had refurbishment done to her to bring her back to her former glory in 1991. The lifeboat forms part of the Wouldhave and Greathead Memorial . Erected in 1887 as part of the town's Queen Victoria Jubilee celebrations. Erected to both men as they each had a claim to the original design of the lifeboat. Officially unveiled 1890 in conjunction with the opening of the Marine Parks. |
