South Tyneside History
Welcome to South Tyneside History
The images on this website have been digitally recorded from original items held by South Tyneside Libraries in our Local History Collection.
South Tyneside History is supported by South Tyneside Council and is a continuation of a South Tyneside Libraries project which was originally made possible through Your Heritage funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
The continuing work of adding images and information to the website is carried out by trained volunteers with support from Local History Group members and staff at South Tyneside Libraries. We would like to thank these people and our contractors Townsweb Archiving for making this website possible.
Digitisation of our resources helps us to conserve them by reducing the need to handle the fragile original materials. It also allows us to make the resources available to a wider audience allowing more people than ever to engage with South Tyneside’s rich heritage.
The images are available to purchase via the website.
If you wish to use an image in a publication or for commercial purposes you will require permission from South Tyneside Libraries. There may be a charge for the use of the image. Some images remain the copyright of the photographer and you will also require their permission before using the image.
South Tyneside History is non-profit making and any income from sales of pictures goes back into the running of the project and conservation of more pictures.
We hope you enjoy using the website.
