| Further Information | Details of the Tyne lifeboat at Pier Approach: This Lifeboat was built in 1833 and was presented to the trustees of the Tyne Lifeboat Institution by the late Thomas Forrest Esq. Shipowner of South Shields. It has been instrumental in rescuing 1,028 shipwrecked people and was handed over by the trustees to the care of the Corporation in 1894. South Shields Crest: Courage, Humanity and Commerce: Always Ready can be seen at the centre top of the board. |
