Further Information | The plaque on the front of the house reads "This house in which Robert Gilchrist the Newcastle poet died in 1844, and in which King Charles I rested when he played golf in the Shieldfield, was devised to the Lord Mayor, Aldermen and Citizens of the City and County of Newcastle Upon Tyne by the late Alderman Sir Walter Richard Plummer, D.C.L. 1917". The house was demolished in the 1970s. |
