Further Information | On the night of 9 April from 23.25hrs to 04.30hrs on the morning of 10 April 1941, two bombs were dropped on Clyvedon Rise. Then came a shower of incendiaries, an estimate of 6,000 fell in the Tyne Dock area throughout the centre of town and over the Mile End Road, River Drive and Wapping Street districts. It soon became clear that a full scale attack was developing and directed mainly at the ship building, ship repair and timber yards on the river. This photo shows the damage to the repair department and fitting shop of Readhead's yard following this night of destruction. |
