Further Information | At 22.05, a bomb fell on Queen Street between Station Approach and Mile End Road. It demolished all the houses on the north side including Chipchase's Tripe shop and the rear of Moorhouse's Furniture Store in Mile End Road. Casualties occurred from people being buried under the debris of ten or twelve houses. The 80 feet in diameter crater filled with water from a fractured water main hampering the rescue. It was judged from the crater that the bomb weighed about 1800 kg. |
