| Further Information | Black and white photograph showing the original disappearing gun; A Clarke-Maxim experimental breach loading coastal defence gun which was installed on a floating platform at Trow Rocks in 1887. It became known as the disappearing gun because it was originally sited on a floating platform in a pit which was hydraulically filled with water to raise the gun when it was to be fired, it was never fired in anger. As a result of vandalisim it was replaced by a replica 1991 by R.E.M.E. |
