Further Information The tanker "British Chemist" unexpectedly steered to starboard on her way up river to Jarrow oil wharf and dug her bows into the mud. She almost crushed a local trawler Polar Prince, which was tied up beside the Shields Engineering Company quay, in the process. It took six Lawson- Batey tugs several hours to pull her free. The "British Chemist" was built at Palmer's shipyard in 1925 and was scrapped in 1953
