Further Information | This is a replica of Cannon Battery that was constructed in 1643 situated at the Lawe Top, South Shields. It is located at the harbour entrance to the River Tyne. The large brick beacon is a leading landmark used to guide ships into the river before the piers were built. Another is sited behind the cannon against the building behind the camera. A view of Tynemouth Priory on the north bank of the river is visible in the background. |
