Further Information | The two ships in the foreground are colliers which are moored at Harton Buoys waiting to be moved to Harton Staithes to be loaded with coal to be taken to the London power stations. The smaller ship is the flat iron collier "Fulham X" designed to pass below the Thames bridges. The other is "Charles H Merz". Both ships were part of the Central Electricity Generating Board's fleet. Behind them, alongside Middle Docks Repair Yard, is a bulk sugar carrier "Crystal Jewel" owned by the Sugar Line Ltd. The other is a cargo ship "Temple Main" owned by Lambert Brothers. John Readhead & Sons yard can be seen in the background. |
