Further Information | Cost £6479 and built in 1883 by Hepple and Co. North Shields. Length 90ft. Breadth moulded 19ft 6inch. Depth 9ft 5inch. Speed 9 knots .Paddle tug Coble Dene operated on the lower reaches of the Tyne for seventy years until scrapped in 1953. The tug was unique on the river for the 'spark arrester' fitted to the top of her funnel. This was a safe guard against sparks flying from the funnel and setting dock timber alight. |
