Further Information | Wapping Street from the river showing the direct Ferry Landing and Kirton's Quay. To the right can be seen the pile driver for Brigham and Cowan's Dock. The ferry was for foot passengers only and ran at five minute intervals between the New Quay, North Shields and Kirton's Quay, South Shields, the fare being reduced to a halfpenny, hence the poular name"Ha'penny Ferry".
