| Further Information | Print showing launch of the Blenheim in 1848 from the yard of W Smith, St Peters (now the site of Hawthorn Leslies). A famous East Indiaman in her day. In 1846 by the launching of the Marlborough of 1,000 tons burden and again of the Blenheim of 1,600 tons, 18 July 1848, further records were broken. These two ships were long regarded as the most perfect specimens of their class yet constructed; and, at the Great Exhibition of 1851 in Hyde Park, which was opened by Queen Victoria they were presented with silk ensigns and houseflags as being the finest ships in the British Merchant Marine.
