Further Information | Directors and ladies attending the launch of the SS Baltistan at Readhead's yard, South Shields on 24th February 1937. The ship was built for the Strick Line, of London. The Baltistan was torpedoed and sunk by an Italian submarine on February 27th, 1941, about 400 miles West of Valentia Island, Ireland. Captain J.H. Hedley and forty six of her crew and four passengers were killed. |
