Further Information | This watch tower was erected by Master and Brethen of Trinity House, Newcastle c1810 for the Tyne Pilots, most of them lived in the area. The tower provided a good vantage point to see ships sailing towards the River Tyne. Note the bay window to the second storey and the anchor on the tower which bears a motto in Latin-in Arms- DEUS DABIT VELA -God will give the sails. Also see image STH0002825. |
