Further Information | In the 1870's Cholera was prevalent and on the formation of the Port Sanitary Authority, a floating hospital was provided at Jarrow Slake. The first hospital was an old ferry boat named "Durham". She was inadequate and was added to by mooring the galliot "Alliance" alongside in 1883. The two were replaced in 1886 by the floating hospital here pictured, which was dismantled in 1930. |
