Further Information | Men who have just come out of the diving bell (shown suspended) after working on the be of the River Tyne for 4 hours. The bed of the river at this piont was full of rockss which necessitated huge spikes being driven into it which were attatched to mooring chains of the big buoys. Air was continually pumped into the bell by armoured pipe seen attached to the top of the bell which also had an electric light. |
