Further Information | This cutting is from the Shields Gazette of 25 February 1974. it shows Mr James Ramsey. It reads:- "Fifty-six years sexton at St Hilda's Church, South Shields - this is the proud record of James Ramsey, pictured. An article in last week's Gazette about the history of the church, the oldest in town, prompted Mr. Ramsey's grandson, Mt J G Foster of Rosa Street, South Shields, to sent us this photograph of his grandfather. Mr Ramsey, after serving as sexton for longer than anyone, including William Wouldhave, mentioned in the Gazette article, now rests in Westoe Road Old Cemetery." |
