Further Information | Terrot Glover was an auctioneer who lived in East King Street. He was mayor of South Shields in 1857, 1872 and 1873. A member of the first Town Council. He was one of theĀ group who fought for the emancipation of the Tyne: that was a movement that sought to gain recognition for South Shields as a port. At that time South Shields was unable to collect its own revenue from from such things as customs and excise, this had to be handled by Newcastle. |
