| Further Information | Opening of the Smith's Dock Pontoon, North Shields. Has a lifting power off 3,200 tons and capable of taking on vessels up to 350' in length. The first ship on the first off-shore pontoon was the Chemiston of London and replaced by screw steamer Doubtless of Newcastle on 19 September 1892. Paddle Tug John Batey in attendance. |
