Further Information | Black and white photograph showing premises of Thomas Crofton's shop at 28-30 Market Place and 1-2 King Street. This building was erected in 1884 and in 1901 the shop had 10 departments and occupied the site of 5 shops. The founder of the business was Tom Crofton who belonged to Chester le Street, he founded the business in 1877. On 22 December 1891 the premises were gutted by fire and repaired but eventually went out of business following extensive bomb damage during World War ll. |
