Further Information | The unveiling of Queen Victoria's statue outside Town Hall, 7.5.1913, by Sir Hedworth Williamson. Statue is 9 feet high. Contract price was £1000, sculptor Albert Toft of London. Pedestal of the finest Scottish grey granite, work done by Kirkpatrick Bros. Clifford Park Manchester. Pedestal and figure weight 20tons. On the platform along with Sir Hedworth and the Mayor Coun. J.W.Henderson are Ald. J.R.Lawson, Rev. Canon Robertson, vicar of St. Hilda's, Dr. Gowans, Mr. A. Flagg, and Mr Henry Grieves, the architect. Mr. Toft, the sculptor is at the back, right hand side. |
