| Further Information | Excavations by members of the South Shields Archaeological and Historical Society revealed traces of the eastern section of the defensive ditch which once surrounded the Roman Fort at the Lawe. J.W.Thornbarrow, with soade, Hon. Sec. J.R.G. Middleton, Hon. Sec. Excavations Commitee. Foundations of the wall can be seen at the far end of the excavation and the collapsed wall lying in front. |
