| Further Information | The Zenith Arms in Swinburne Street, Jarrow. For many years known as 'The Alkali', the area once being close to chemical works, manufacturing vitrial and alkali, used in glass manufacture. The landlady in 1984 is supposed to consider the ownership of the pub being the zenith of her career, hence the new name. It has since reverted to its previous name of 'The Alkali'. |
