Further Information This watch tower was erected by Master and Brethen of Trinity House, Newcastle c1810 for the Tyne Pilots, most of whom lived in the area. The tower provided a good vantage point to see ships sailing towards the River Tyne. Note the anchor on the tower which bears a motto in Latin-in Arms- DEUS DABIT VELA -God will give the sails. Also note the crenellation on the top of the circular tower and adjoining building. Behind the tower, the terrace of houses are in Lawe Road.
