Further Information | The announcement of a town meeting called by R Shortridge in response to petition from leading members of the town which include Russell Bowlby and Terrot Glover. The meeting was called in support of the Corporation Reform Bill. The Bill became the Municipal Corporations Act 1835 which established municipal boroughs which were governed by town councils and elected by ratepayers. |
