Further Information At 21.09 hours on the evening of September 30th South Shields experienced wide spread bombing when a 1,000kg. bomb fell in the gardens behind the Simonside Arms on Newcastle Road. The crater was 50 feet by 15 feet, a 90 feet wall was demolished and there were no casualties.
