Further Information Adam and Eve public house situated at the corner of Laygate and
Frederick Street. The tombstone of a Ralph Milbourne was found in the
garden of the pub. Milbourne was a Prestbyterian and according to St
Hilda's register was buried in the garden of his own home, called Lay
House. Ironically, considering Milbourne's faith, the house was
demolished and the pub in the photograph erected on the site. The sign
above the door reads,  John Lanson, ale, porter, spirits.  A new
Adam and Eve(superceding the building in the photograph) was built
in 1878.
